Dozens of civilian casualties were reported on Saturday after the Syrian Air Force launched an airstrike on an opposition-held area in the suburb of the capital Damascus, local sources said.
The opposition-held town of Hammuriyeh in the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus was hit with an airstrike by pro-regime forces.
“21 civilians were confirmed dead so far, and dozens more were wounded in the airstrike that targeted a main street in central Hammuriyeh on Saturday,” local media activist Muhammad al-Shami told ARA News.
The air raid reportedly caused a massive destruction to a number of residential buildings in the targeted street.
“Rescue teams continued to search for victims under the rubble,” al-Shami reported.
The wounded were transferred to a field hospital in the town for treatment, while medical sources there told ARA News that the death toll may rise in the next few hours as some of the injured are in critical condition.
