Militant fighters of the Islamic State group (ISIS) launched an offensive on Syrian army positions in the central province of Homs, local sources reported on Wednesday.
ISIS militants targeted a major Syrian army base in eastern Homs, firing several mortar shells.
Local sources told ARA News that dozens of pro-government soldiers were killed and wounded in the attack.
Also, clashes continued on Wednesday between ISIS militants and Syrian army forces in the vicinity of al-Somariya mountain in Homs and the eastern countryside of Hama province.
The clashes follow a rapid progress by the Syrian army towards Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province, where ISIS controls key areas near the border with Iraq.
